December movement classes at Najla’s Dance & Hip Love Studio. As December arrives; inviting us to slow down, stay warm and move with intention. Here at Najla’s Dance & Hip Loves Studio, for the month of December we are focusing on:

Our December classes are designed with you in mind. Because of this you will feel: nourished, supported, and energized in a way that is not rushed or leaves you feeling depleted. This is a time to move with love, honor your body, and let dance and fitness carry you through the season.

Focusing on Winter Warmth Through Movement with:

  • Slow, warming sequence’s
  • Grounding footwork & Hips
  • Steady breath and mindfulness

December Focus- Thursdays 7:30pm

We will explore:

  • Staying rooted in our posture
  • Group awareness
  • calm, steady moves that build heat & confidence

Simply put; dancing together in unison-reminding us we’re not alone. These classes are: empowering, grounding and can be very meditative.

Shimmy with Confidence: Belly Dance with Joy & SparkleWednesdays 6:30pm

In a nurturing way- this class brings a touch of playfulness & Celebration for December.

  • Shimmies to warm the body
  • Hip work for Core Strength
  • no pressure-just movement
  • feeling good & lifting your spirit

Yoga for the HolidaysTuesday Mornings 9:15am/Wednesdays 5:30pm

Our December yoga classes are perfect if the holidays feel a bit overwhelming. As a result; you can expect:

  • slow pacing
  • gentle strength & stretching
  • support for your nervous system
  • breath work to release stress

Furthermore, our space is a safe place to arrive exactly as you are. It does not matter if your; tired, joyful, tender or all of it all at once. Simply put, this is your space and your time.

Pilates December

Ballet Boot Camp-Mondays 5:30pm Pilates-Tuesdays 5:30pm Barre Thursdays 5:30pm

Overall, these classes will focus and emphasize:

  • Strength
  • Posture/balance
  • short effective sequences to tone & feel good

To sum it up our studio is where you can be seen and heard along with movement that is shared without pressure; not judged. We focus on community more then getting it perfect that’s what matters. Even if you do just one class a week that is an act of self care for you!

I absolutely love all types of movement and I love challenging myself and my body! With over 32 years of fitness and dance together, As a result I know what works. Ballet Boot Camp Fitness Your New B.B.F!

Are you looking for a fun and exciting unique workout? Ballet Boot Camp fitness is just that. So what is Ballet Boot Camp fitness you are asking yourself? This class takes the most basic ballet movements and puts it into a fitness aspect (much like a barre workout). This class focuses on improving your balance, posture while working on strengthening, toning and defining your body! It is a full total low impact workout just for you!

Allie Joseph; the owner of Hip Love Studio created this class almost a year ago! Coming first from a fitness background and a love for ballet is how Ballet Boot Camp came about!

This class is open to all and no experience is required! The format of the class follows a simple but very effective structure:

Warm up of the whole body

Warm up of the feet and legs

Movements at the Barre

Arm strengthening & toning

Exercise’s focusing on the: Core, legs, hips and glutes

Gentle stretches on the floor to end!

Students are really loving this class and it has become one of the favorites at the studio!

A common misconception about dance…

Throughout my years of teaching I hear one thing when it comes to dance and my classes.. This is not the only misconception. Dance is not easy; it is not supposed to be. Dance is an art form and it does take practice and commitment. I started right where you did 26 years ago. n In fact, I was uncoordinated and not able to move my body effortlessly as my counter parts. Heck, to this day its very common for me to get tangled up in my feet just by walking!

I had to work twice as hard as the other students and I practiced more then they did. I became frustrated. I would work so hard and I often compare myself to the others in class who seemed to move effortless. . I never gave up! My hard work paid off and what started out as the ugly duckling; I am now a very graceful dancer.

So what is this one misconception of dance that I am talking about? This comes up in many conversations with most people who inquire about my classes as well as students. It is one comment: one line…..

“I am not a good dancer. I can not dance. I have 2 left feet”

Does this sound familiar? Have you ever thought about taking a dance and or dance fitness class and said these words?

People often think to take a dance class you need to have a sense of rhythm and movement. This is not true! My job as a dance teacher to teach you how to dance and how to move. I would be out of a job and you would not need dance teachers right?

It can be overwhelming and intimidating. I understand because in the beginning I was at the same spot you are now!

I teach you how to move your body. In your way because we all are different and move in different ways. I teach you confidence and empowerment through the movement of dance. It takes time, commitment and practice. Not just inside class but outside of class but anyone absolutely can learn to dance in their way and body.

A story.

One day at work my boss and I where talking about dance. She stated: I would love to come to one of your classes. “I have two left feet and have never been able to dance. ” I told her that is my job as a teacher. To teach you how to dance. I wanted her to see she was able! In a matter of 5 minutes I had her dancing with me! She followed me as I lead her. The biggest smile came upon her face. She was dancing. She thanked me and said I never thought I would ever do it but guess what she did!!!

Everyone can dance and move! The misconception of you have to know how to dance to take a dance class is wrong! You take a dance class so you can learn to dance. Will you be the next Fred Astaire? Maybe not but that is ok! It is about learning and having fun and moving your body in your way! I hope you dance and see you soon in class!
