Belly Dance is for everyone no matter the age

Belly Dance is for everyone no matter the age. It is just one of the very few dance forms where you can say that…actually it may be the only; one more specifically if we are talking about advancing to professional level but lets not focus there.

Over my years of being a belly dancer myself of just now 23 years; I have heard oh I am too old or she is too young, or belly dance for kids? I believe I have written about this a time or too but it has been on my mind a lot more recently. I have had discussed this countless of times with current students, soon to be students about the topic. In general, most of the women believe that they are too old for belly dance….what qualifies for too old??? You have got me!!! But, generally speaking I am going to guess that society suggests on average if you are over 30; your too old…this is far from true!

I myself have had the privilege to teach all women from the age of 3-98! I know it is truly crazy that it can be true but WoW all of these women have amazed me! The average age of women stepping into there first class is age anywhere from 40-50, then we do have those exceptions of course, taking their first belly dance class beyond 75 and up!

Have you thought about trying out classes and then thought, but I am too old? Have you suggested it to someone a friend and you got that are you kidding me look? No matter what I am here to tell you that belly dance is for everyone!

Benefits of Belly Dance for 40 & up (benefits everyone!)

it is a low impact workout so it is easier on your joints & bones.

the movements tend to be natural flow (side to side, up and or down, forward & back, in & out).

It helps with coordination and balance.

Helps with posture and to keep the body strong.

Helps keep the body flexible & agile.

It is fun, promotes confidence & well being

Provides time for community with others while learning.

Helps keep the brain young by learning & remembering moves & steps.

Why incorporate Dance in your life

Dance. Why is it important to make dance a part of your life? There are many benefits to dance and it does not matter what type or style it is! Some of the biggest things getting up and grooving will do for you are:

Have you been dancing with me for awhile? We start a brand new session of our Beginner Level 2 January 1, 2022!

Level Up! GC Style!

 In this level we explore the various and most common drum rhythmns. We will explore the Beledi & Saidi plus more!  We will go over  how to hear the music and how to feel the beat through are body and how to interpret and dance to each one.  We  will also learn how to use finger cymbals (Zills) and incorporate it into our dance adding another layer!  You will learn how to hold & wear the zills, basic zilling such as: 3 3 3 , 3 3 7 and more!  So fun!  We will also add more layers movements and transitions to some of the moves we learned in level one!  Prerequisite for this course:  You must have a solid understanding of movement in Global Caravan 1 and completed.

Staying Stress free during the Festive Period!

December is the most festive month of the entire year! As the holidays are fast approaching this is the time to take care of you! The month of December is a hectic one for sure! Juggling work, family, preparing for the holidays, cooking, shopping parties! Its enough to make your head spin and can put a toll on your body! It is very important to have a self care plan in place to keep your energy up and avoid holiday burn out! So let me ask? What do you do for you? Do you practice self care? If you know me I am big on taking care of yourself! As women, we have so many responsibilities and taking care of others we often forget to take care of ourselves and we often put ourselves last when we actually should be putting ourselves first!

Just for you and my gift to you here are a few things you can do just for you!

  1. Keep a gratitude journal each day. Include things you are grateful for along with the things you have accomplished. This will help you stay mindful and keep a positive mindset and will make you feel good!
  2. Get creative! This could be painting, writing or dancing! This will help you express yourself and get those creative juices going! It does not have to be perfect or good. This will help release stress and just make you feel good!
  3. Make a new playlist of music! Music is important and can really uplift us and put us in a great mood! Once you complete your playlist turn it on and have a dance party by yourself! This is a great way to reduce stress, increase energy and just moving your body feels amazing!
  4. Take a bath, light some candles and add rose petals! This will help you relieve stress and help you to relax and help clear your mind.
  5. Schedule a massage! This will help relieve tension and relax your muscles!
  6. Schedule a energy healing session! This will reduce stress, anxiety, tension and help balance your body!
  7. Go for a walk get out in nature and connect to make you feel good and energized!
  8. Take yourself out on a date by yourself! This can be lunch, a movie, visit an art gallery. Something that will make you feel good!
  9. Drink plenty of water! Staying hydrated is important and helps increase energy!
  10. Meditate! Calming your mind and body! Even if it is just a few minutes!

I hope these 10 simple things help you stay relaxed and stress free over the holidays!

Celebrating a year of success and a gift for you!

Celebrating officially being in my new space & new studio for one year! It has been such a great year and there have been so many changes and new things happening! My new space/studio is called Najlas Dance-Metamorphosis through dance, movement & healing. Why did I decide to go with this? I was called to create space where those that are looking for a safe, supportive and nurturing environment to feel more confident, empowered and to connect to themselves through all the modalities I offer! It has been exciting to see it grow and I have so many ideas for the future. Helping others is what I am all about! I mostly work with women, helping them find themselves through movement, dance & healing. I can also say no one in my area offers the variety and the specialized classes and healing modalities under one space!

How are you connecting with yourself and others?

Hello to each and everyone of you! I am so glad you are here and we can connect in this way is so awesome! I really am so truly grateful for you being part of my community and tribe! There are so many ways that we can connect with each other as we have an abundant flow of technology and social media platforms! Speaking of social media platforms…I am sitting at my desk writing this blog and the one social media platform that I have truly depended on Facebook is down! I have always thought what if Facebook is gone tomorrow how am I going to connect to my students and you? The thing is we do not own the social media platforms! They are not ours. Do you depend on using things like messenger to talk to your friends or family instead of picking up the phone?

We spend so much time attached to our phone including me, that we lose connection with ourselves and others! In what ways can we connect to ourselves?

How about taking that dance class you have been telling yourself your going to sign up but never do?

Or you feel stressed out and need some healing but you never make the time to get that energy work done and schedule it you just keep putting it on the back burner.

When we lose the connection with ourselves and others we often find ourselves, stressed, anxious and depressed and feel stuck!

What is Tribal Grooves?

Tribal Grooves is a dance fitness program kind of like Zumba but uses earthy flowy bellydance movement mixed with a bit of modern!
